Hello,
I am now study to use the Pipe Flow Modulue in Comsol to simulate the cooling effects of pipe.
I followed on good example from Comsol library but confronted a Error when I want to set the at the last step: Study->Show Default Solver. The Error is :

Errors when compiling equations.
Wall heat transfer feature Wall heat Transfer 1 must have at least one resistive layer.

Could anyone give me an idea about how I could fix this error? I have no clues.
I attache the module as well. Thanks a lot!

Meshing Error

Good day,
I am working on a flux density simulation, and at the meshing stage this error came up
" Failed to create swept mesh for domain.
- Domain: 5
Domain must be bounded by one connected face component only"
I would appreciate it if anyone could point me in the right direction

Simulating displacement with variable magnetic force

Hi

I am modelling the mechanical behaviour of a magnetically steerable catheter. I should be able to implement a variable force, which varies according to orientation and position of the permanent magnet in an external magnetic field.
I implemented a model using the Solid Mechanics, the magnetic fields - no currents and moving mesh module.
The obtained results are correct regarding displacement direction, however the simulated magnitude is way too small. As I checked all material properties it should not be a problem of parameters.

Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm open for alternative implementation methods.

Thanks
Michael

Electric current and Electric circuit

I am comparatively new at COMSOL. I am trying to simulate two part of my problem.

1) Two electrode for current carrying
2) Other each of four electrode attached with external resistor. Two of them will shorted. Other two will also shorted. I want to measure the potential between resultant two nodes.

The set up can be better understood from my schematic that i have attached.

I have used terminal 1 and ground feature for current carrying. And other four terminal for voltage measurement. I also have attached four terminal with external I vs U. But i cant find the solution. Shows error in performing the simulation.

Reason may be terminal are not connected with external I vs U. Or node connection.

Any help will be highly appreciated

Fatigue module message "Stress cycle defined by stress amplitude "

Hi, I'm using the fatigue module to evaluate the results from a solid mechanics object. However, I get the following warning message: "Stress cycle defined by stress amplitude 285686239.1227691 encountered. Fatigue cannot be evaluated ". I get a Cycles to Failure plot, but an area of the object appears empty.

Any ideas on what might be producing this warning?

I mighty upload the model later if required, the computer I'm using eighty now doesn't want to load the forum page, so I'm posting from my phone.

Thanks for any help,

Alfredo

Can COMSOL input a temperature profile?

Hi,

My team and I are fire engineers who are interested in purchasing COMSOL . We are analysing how structures (such as buildings) deform/undergo stress in a fire. We were wondering whether COMSOL can apply FEA to a structure that experiences different temperatures over time (temperature profile)? For example, how will the same structure deform if a fire is 100° at 7:00pm and if the fire grows to 110° at 7:01pm?

Most software can only apply a constant temperature to the structure (100° at 7:00pm and 100° again at 7:01pm), however most fires increase in temperature over time.

Another question we had is can COMSOL model a fire at different locations? For example:
7:00pm: Fire at 100° on left side of building and another fire at 102° on right side of building
7:01pm: Fire now at 103° on left side of building and right side building fire is now at 105°

In summary, does COMSOL offer FEA analysis for structures experiencing different temperatures, at different locations over a time period?

Furthermore, how much does COMSOL cost for a team of 5?

Many thanks,

Tina .

convert imported *.stl into solid

I am importing a rather complex geometry into COMSOL from Solid Works. After some tinkering with the import controls, I managed to import the object but I do not think COMSOL recognizes it as a solid. When using the physics, I can only click on edges, not faces.

What do I need to do to 'knit to solid' or make the object into a solid as recognized by COMSOL. Any direction would help a lot.

Should I maybe open it in a different software and convert it into a solid there?

Implementing a two-temperature-model (electronic/lattice) for fast laser-excitation

$

Hello,

I want to model a pulsed laser that hits a solid, excites electrons which "thermalize" then transferring their energy to the lattice (solid, atoms). I think most people do not use COMSOL for this purpose, but I want to, because I started with classical heat conduction and now want to setup my model in greater detail.

The two-temperature model is basically a model where you define two temperatures for electrons and atoms in a material respectively. This is necessary if you take into account that the electrons react much faster on an external excitation (femtosecond laser pulse [1E-15 s]) than the atoms.

The question is: how to realize this in COMSOL . In principal I would expect to be able to add and couple two heat transfer physics with two different dependent variables Te (electronic) and T (atoms) and custom material parameters (thermal conductivity, source terms). But how do I couple these?

Or would it be easier to go directly for custom PDEs and without predefined physics terminals?

Please help me here.

Henning Hollermann

Electric circuit Node naming

Hi
I do not understand the concept of node naming in Electric circuit. I know that we need External I vs U and External U vs I to connect the external circuit but the node naming is very confusing.

If someone can explain me the concept of node and node naming in electric circuit and electric current interface, I will really appreciate the help in this regards.

Thanks a lot!

Take care and best regards

I am trying to validate the procedure for modelling turbulent combustion in COMSOL by using the results from available literature. My results are not matching literature results. No temperature rise is predicted by the COMSOL due to reaction heat. I am attaching the literature and will mail the COMSOL File. Please suggest corrections.

How to model a deformable valve in Comsol

Hello to everybody,
for my master thesis I am trying to create a CFD model that simulates the emptying of a bottle, containing a power-law, shear thinning fluid.
The physics I have used is laminar two phase flow, level set.
This bottle has got a silicon valve on its neck: by squeezing the bottle, the valve opens and the fluid flows across it.
The problem is to how to simulate the behaviour of this type of valve in Comsol: are there, for example, some proper boundary conditions, a physics model, to reproduce this?

Thank you in advance,
best regards

Lumped ports - how to use with real conductors

$

Hi all,
rather a novice I'm afraid and trying to simulate a simple split ring resonator . thats a metal ring with a cut that makes it look like a letter "C" I would like to excite this by imposing a voltage across the gap. I'm using a copper ring in my simulations. How can I connect a lumped port to this ?
the documenation on lumped ports says they have to be put between two electrically conductive faces. I've setup ,y geometry and defined the strucure using copper as a material - generally a very conductive metal in my experience.
I've selected the two opposing facets , facing one another across the gap in the 'C' and yet, I get the error message :

Uniform lumped port should be placed between two conductive boundaries.
- Feature: Type: Lumped Port

So this package thinks copper is not conductive ??? can anyone explain what I am doing wrong here ?

Hello. Comsol user
I'm making one model. It is a buried water filled pipe [acoustic solid interation, transient module]
and i want using monopole point source just 1cycle sin wave
how? i want know that

and i used impedance matching for infiniti pipe model at end of pipe boundary
(ex. if using steel pipe i setting the end impedance rho*c(steel))
it is correct??

Finally, what I want to make is an acoustic emission model.
I'd like to make a signature on Attachment 2.

Attachment 1 is modeling
Attachment 2 is my Final goal

I'd appreciate your advice.
Thank you

Hi, I'd like to ask a question!

I got the matrix (V=mpheval(model,'V')) using the Livelink.
and I modified value of some points in V matrix.
But when I import to COMSOL, It didn't be reflected.

If you have any experience or helps could you give me any suggestion?
